THE annual Silver City Cup was held last Saturday, enjoyed by locals and out-of-towners.
Silver City Cup chair Dave Gallagher said there was a strong turnout compared to last year’s event.
“It’s been a good crowd, a very vocal crowd,” he said.
“I’m very, very pleased with the number of people here today, I’m very happy with the preparation of the track.
“The people of Broken Hill have really helped, and the businesses of Broken Hill, considering we had a natural disaster here with the towers down, but as soon as they could help, they came straight away without hesitation.”
The main event, the Silver City Cup, was held in the afternoon, when horse My Truth took out his first major win.
Trainer Kim Talent said My Truth had been beaten by “a nostril” in his previous races.
“It was really nice for him to finally win,” Talent said.
“I kept calling him the bridesmaid and now he’s finally the bride. So very, very proud of him. I thought it was deserved with all his placings that he’s been getting.
“It’s nice to see him get up on the board.”
Talent was also impressed with My Truth’s jockey, 18-year-old Brooke King.
“She did a really, really good job with him,” Talent said.
“I think she’ll be a great jockey when she gets older. She’s doing a great job now at her age.
“She’s definitely one worth keeping an eye on.”
King began cup day with a very early wake-up to travel to Broken Hill in time for the big race.
“Got up at 2am this morning, won’t be home until midnight, but this (win) made it all worth it,” she said.
“I’ve had a few nice wins, but this has got the biggest title, and is my first country cup.”
The horse King And King finished second in the cup race, and The Ladies Man was third.
