Better water measurement on offer

THE State Government has expanded its free telemetry and installation program, with up to 4000 more water users now eligible to apply to have the state-of-the-art devices installed on their property.

The devices automatically track and transmit water usage data, providing real time insights to landholders and reducing manual reporting.

Earlier this year it was announced that free telemetry devices would be delivered to more than 2500 groundwater and surface water sites across the Murray-Darling Basin, and this expanded eligibility will now be open to include regulated water users across the Basin.

Requirements for water users are to have an annual entitlement of 100ML or greater.

NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, The Environment and Water’s director of metering and licensing, Dan Connor, said the program had all seen strong interest from farmers and landholders.

“This expansion opens the door for thousands more in the regulated system to reap the benefits and get compliant,” he said.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for water users to save time and money and comply with the rules, all while strengthening the state’s ability to accurately measure water taken from the Basin, which benefits everyone.”

The program aims to boost the state’s water monitoring and management by sending real time data to water management agencies daily. This will help to ensure water is extracted fairly, equitably and within the rules, which will save licence holders time and money.

Those who qualify for the program should register their interest via the website: Telemetry Uplift Opt-in Registration Form.
