North Broken Hill Bowling Club

Saturday, May 17

MILD 18 degrees conditions, plus plenty of sun attracted a very good roll up of 26 participants.

There were three undefeated teams, skippered by Peter Merritt, Dennis Cetinich and Barry Hooker.

The number 31 was sweet news for Peter’s side, which comprised lead Bernie Buck (visitor from Forbes) and second Glen Weekes.

The consolation spin went the way of Jenny Garnaut, Brian Jones and skip Graham Riley.

Ryan Atkinson was spot on with the only resting toucher for the afternoon.

Sunday, May 18

PETER Simons played Zac Weekes in the Minor championships Singles Final with the winner being the first to 21 shots.

After one shot each after two ends, Peter then took command for the next six ends, consistently having at least one bowl adjacent to the kitty.

Zac scored two shots on the 9th end and then added two singles to Peter’s one to trail 11-5.

The latter continued to create the decisive bowl to score five shots to Zac’s one to lead 16-6.

A triple to Zac on the 17th end narrowed the margin to seven shots. Peter added a further three shots over the next two ends to restore his ten shots advantage 19-9.

Zac scored two shots but Peter was not to be denied, attaining a couple on the 21st end to claim the minor singles championship 21-11.

Congratulations to both bowlers for participating in the first minor championship singles contest in six years.

Peter Simons 21 defeated Zac Weekes 11.

Tuesday, May 20

DELIGTHFUL, calm 19 degrees weather again saw 26 social bowlers play two matches on our club’s carpet green.

Barry Hooker’s team won both their matches, while Ken Hodge (first game) and Judy Calleia (second match) piloted their side to two victories as well.

The number 11 was excellent news for Ken/Judy’s combination which featured lead June Walker and second Bob Sultana.

The consolation spin produced some compensation after an unsuccessful time on the green for John Payne, Brian Fenton and skip Peter Simons.

There were wrong biases galore with Brian Fenton notching two, with singles to Steve Cutting, Dot McInnes and Peter Simons.

Broken Hill Men’s Indoor Bowls

ROUND 2 played on Tuesday night, May 20 saw only one game played due to Demo not fielding a team and giving Sturt a forfeit.

The game played was between Muso Flags and Try-Hards.

Try-Hards battled all night and even held shot on occasions, but the Flags were just too strong and ran out easy winners 23 to 6.

Round 3 games to be played on Tuesday night:

May 27, 2025

Sturt versus Flags

Demo versus Try-Hards

The Mixed Indoor Bowls Association will be running their mixed pairs and singles championships from May 29 for six to eight weeks. Entries still open.
