NEW South Wales Premier Chris Minns has visited Broken Hill to discuss the energy crisis, and explain newly announced funding and the establishment of an information ‘shopfront’ to fix communication issues.
Mr Minns spoke to the public and media in Sturt Park in Broken Hill at 12pm yesterday.
“I’m sorry the circumstances are obviously very distressing for all residents in Broken Hill and the surrounding communities,” Mr Minns said.
“The bottom line here is that there should have been no interruption in supply after we had that weather event late last week. And we’re seeing many members of the community, many small businesses, the hospital, and essential services that have been severely impacted”.
Mr Minns explained the idea behind setting up a ‘shopfront’ to keep the community informed .
“There are clearly some lessons to be learned when it comes to
government communication,” he said.
“As soon as we possibly can we’ll get a shopfront, probably in Service NSW, and ensure the government department is centrally located along with electricity utilities.
“If (people) have got a concern, they can go to that shop, get the latest information and any help that they need, whether it’s accessing this payment, support payments for local businesses or just the best estimate about when power supply will be returned to the local community.”
