Holiday drivers on the nice list

LOCAL law enforcement have reported a safe Christmas period in the region with Barrier Police District Acting Inspector Matt Sippel saying there haven’t been any major incidents.

New South Wales Police Operation Christmas New Year 2024 began on Friday, December 20 and ended Wednesday, January 1 and covered the entire holiday period.

During that time the demerit points lost if fined doubled, adding extra motivation for drivers to be safe.

Insp Sippel said he is happy with how the community acted during the holiday period.

“We’ve had people really behaving and abiding by those road rules across the entire district,” he said.

“We haven’t had any major incidents across the whole police district since that operation commenced before Christmas.

“Obviously people still speed, and we have picked up people with excessive speeds, but by and large the message is that everyone’s abiding by the road rules.

“From my point of view, I’d rather not hand out any tickets and everyone just arrive at their destination safely.”
