NINE sporting clubs and associations across the state will share in $300,000 of grants.
Barwon MP Roy Butler put in a successful bid to secure the discretionary funding from the New South Wales Government and Minister for Sport, Steve Kamper.
The Minister for Sport can award grants that align with the Office of Sport’s Strategic Plan. This is known as discretionary funding.
South Broken Hill Football Club received $64,482 for upgrades to air conditioning, while West Broken Hill Football Club are getting $24,978 for update their public address system.
Broken Hill Pistol Club will upgrade their range surface with $29,900, and Warren Netball Club received $45,000 for court lighting, while $30,000 will be spent on sun smart upgrades for the Warren Junior Soccer Association.
Walgett PCYC will fund their Nations of Origin 2025 and afternoon program with $30,000; Narrabri Soccer Club will use $22,000 for the installation of additional steps and landing, earthworks and drainage improvements, and upgrades to their electrical system; Tullibigeal Lake Cargelligo United Rugby are spending $36,000 on upgrades to a range of outdated kitchen and canteen appliances, including fryers, food display bars, and warmers; and $12, 900 will be used for a sound system upgrade with the Cobar Ward Oval and Cobar Shire Council.
“Sport is so important to Barwon communities, not only for the health benefits it brings, but also for social cohesion,” Mr Butler said.
“Many of our sporting clubs are central to community life, and investing in this infrastructure can benefit these communities beyond just weekend sport.
“I’d like to thank the NSW Government and the Minister for Sport, Steve Kamper, for providing nine regional and rural sporting clubs with the funding they need to keep contributing to their local sport and community.
“Sport out west is more than just recreation, for us it’s vital to our social fabric, this funding means we can continue to invest and improve in Barwon’s overall quality of life.”
