SUV crash on Barrier fatal

A SINGLE-vehicle crash outside of Broken Hill on Sunday has proven fatal, taking the life of a 62-year-old woman.

Following reports of the incident emergency services were called to the scene at about 7.10pm.

The crash occurred on the Barrier Highway approximately 25km from Broken Hill.

The woman in her sixties was the sole occupant and driver of the SUV.

She was treated at the scene by New South Wales Ambulance paramedics but was unable to be revived and died at the scene.

A crime scene was established and Barrier Police District officers began an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Acting Inspector Matt Sippel said the cause of the crash was not for speculation and that an examination was conducted by police.

“Police have conducted an examination and will prepare a report for the coroner,” he said.

Police are under a statutory obligation to report any deaths which result – directly or indirectly – from an accident or injury to the coroner.

The duration of a coroner’s investigation heavily varies depending on the case.
