South keep their cool

SOUTH’S B Grade team were sent in to bat against an undermanned West team.

Jamie Gilby was determined to cement his spot as an opener, and he and James Green were off to a great start with Gilby showing off his skill as he smacked his first four.

Gilby held his own for eight overs before losing his wicket.

Ex-Southy Anthony Pisano came to the crease, hitting some classy shots.

Green was the steady ship for South and would soon bat along side captain Matthew Gray, who led his team with the bat by smashing eight fours and seven sixes. Unfortunately he fell short of his century, out for 97.

Tom Langford showed his ability to bat anywhere in the line-up by making a quick runs before the innings finished on 205.

South knew a win was not guaranteed, as they had to concentrate on a tight line to keep the West batters at bay.

Sione Tuipulotu had a break from the gloves and came into bowl, snatching a wicket.

P. Bates bowled his aggressive pace snaring a wicket. Anthony Pisano handled a great catch off Josh Hands’ bowling.

Angus Chestnut and Michael Webeck both snagged a wicket each.

The South team rallied together in the field knowing a win was around the corner, as they kept their cool and finished the game with a precision throw from Green for a runout.
