Red alert for Wilcannia

A RED Alert warning has been issued for high levels of potentially toxic blue-green algae in the Darling River upstream of Menindee Lakes.

The warning is for the river upstream and downstream of Wilcannia along with the town of Wilcannia itself.

The alert has been applied based on satellite imagery and on-ground observations.

People in the affected area should refrain from consuming or entering the water and prevent pets and livestock from entering or drinking the water.
