Town to rock on as part of music effort

IN partnership with the Australian Recording Industry Association, the New South Wales Government will be facilitate over 300 live shows throughout venues across the state as part of the 2025 Great Southern Nights event series.

Broken Hill is included in this year’s program, with two gigs scheduled in April: The Screaming Jets will play at the Broken Hill Civic Centre on Friday April 4, and Thelma Plum will take to the Silverton Hotel stage on Saturday April 5.

Members of The Screaming Jets said they’re thrilled to be returning to Broken Hill after many years.

“We’re pumped to be heading back to Broken Hill for a special show as part of Great Southern Nights,” a spokesperson from the band said.

“The last time we played there was in 1992 so it’s been a long time between Broken Hill beers!”

Thelma Plum said she fell in love with the outback charm of Broken Hill after visiting town to photograph artwork and press shots for her album last winter.

Plum said she is thrilled to announce a show at the iconic Silverton Hotel.

Events associated with the live music series will be taking place throughout NSW between March 21 and April 6.

Other locations hosting gigs include Sydney, Western Sydney, Newcastle, Wollongong, the Central Coast region, Bathurst, Byron Bay, the Hunter Valley, Orange, Tamworth and Tilba.

“This Great Southern Nights line-up keeps on getting better and better,” said Minister for the Arts, Minister for Music and the Night-time Economy and Minister for Jobs and Tourism John Graham.

“This is part of the Government’s push to bring back live music across NSW.

“Music fans, venues and artists have been doing it tough during the cost-of-living crisis.

“Great Southern Nights is about firing up the live music scene, getting bands back on stage, filling up venues and bringing communities together for great nights out.”

CEO of ARIA Annabelle Herd welcomed the announcement.

“As the excitement builds, we’re proud to unveil the latest lineup for Great Southern Nights, featuring an incredible array of talent, from the high-energy vibes of South East Block Party and Alison Wonderland to iconic Australian acts like You Am I, The Screaming Jets and Killing Heidi,” she said.

“Through Great Southern Nights, ARIA is proud to support artists, venues, and the broader music industry in partnership with the NSW Government. Our shared goal is one where music venues across NSW are pumping and Aussie artists are having a blast performing to crowds of excited fans, new and old.”

Tickets to all shows are on sale now, available from greatsouthernnights.com.au.
