Village goes pink

THE annual Devonshire Afternoon Tea Fundraiser for the Broken Hill Breast Cancer Support Group, has been held by the Eureka Shorty O’Neil Village.

The event featured scones, tea and other sweets, plus a raffle, door prize and guest speaker.

Village residents and members of the Breast Cancer Support Group, Dot Henderson and Lynne Hastwell, have organised the event for the past five years.

All funds raised go towards the Broken Hill community. This includes funding a $45,000 Cold Cap, and aiding families travelling to Adelaide for treatment.

The group has various other events, including a “pink shop”, where they worked for six months straight creating the pink paper flowers seen across town.

When asked about their roles in the group, Ms Henderson said – “we’re committee members, and raise lots of money!”

“We both joined five years ago,” she said. “I had breast cancer, so once I had it, I joined the group.

“Lots of organisations put on different events for us to help raise money.”

The group also recently won the Far West Volunteer Team of the Year.
