Cake effort wheely good

MEALS on Wheels clients have received their annual Christmas cakes thanks to the Broken Hill Cake Decorators and the Broken Hill Rotary Club.

The tradition which started in 1983 saw the cake decorators volunteer their time to make the Christmas sweets to go with the client’s festive meals.

Cake decorators’ publicity officer Vicki Sladden said Rotary partnered with the group in 1995 to help fund the cost of ingredients.

“It can get quite expensive, but Rotary came on board and started helping us financially,” she said. “They have been doing it ever since.

“The clients love them, they really look forward to it each year.”

One hundred and ten Christmas cakes went out during the week and Meals on Wheels president Lucille Bernard said it was always a delight.

“The Broken Hill Cake Decorators have been providing portions of iced Christmas cakes since 1983 to the delight of our clients and this year is no exception.”
